For the first week in history, Google Chrome is the most-used browser in the world, says StatCounter
IE has persisted in the world as the top used browser – until the last week of May 14 – 20, 2012. For the first 7-day period in history Google’s Chrome browser takes the lead. For many website developers, this is great news because developing interactive experiences for Chrome provides flexibility and cost effectiveness.

Parts of the world are still driving IE usage
Chrome doesn’t dominate in North America where IE is still at about 50%. In Europe, Chrome has been ahead of IE for the last few weeks, but only very slightly.
IE has a huge lead over Chrome in Oceania (between America and Asia), and Firefox dominates IE and Chrome in Africa.
Asia and South America are responsible for skewing Chrome’s worldwide rise
IE is ahead of the pack in Japan, China and South Korea. Chrome leads marginally by 8% in India.
In South America, Chrome takes the biggest share which may be due to the popularity of Google’s Orkut social networking service.
